The Top 3 Beach Side Destinations for Easter 2017 Holidays!

With the summer school holidays over, it's time to plan for the Easter holidays coming up in 12 weeks!  Check out these amazing beach locations!

Time is precious, especially when you only have 20 annual leave days a year. For those of you with school aged children, like me, the pressure to make the most of those 20 annual leave days is even greater.

Two weeks of school holidays seems ok when we have just survived 6 weeks however they will creep up before you know it and the Easter Bunny will be ready to pounce on us too!

So where are the best beach locations over the Easter School holidays?

Gold Coast

Gold Coast.jpg

Who doesn't love the sunny Gold Coast for a holiday? The lazy days sitting next to the pool turn into exciting nights on Cavil Avenue. The theme parks, white beaches, the trendy shopping centres, the laid back atmosphere and a quick plane flight, the list goes on!

If surfing isn't your thing, don't worry, there is still plenty to do. Families, couples, singles and groups can all get on board with Californian cool vibes from Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads.

If you're a family, Main Beach is the spot for you! With a pool, great places to ride and play, the beach and surf club across the road, Main Beach Caravan Park is the closest to all the action all while only being located within a short bike ride from Surfers Paradise, or a $6 UBER. Believe me when I say, permanent residents of the Gold Coast come to Main Beach Caravan Park to have a holiday from home and it is easy to see why. The Main Beach vibes allow your kids to soak up the sun rays and be in bed early.

Popular with both locals and tourists, on the south end of the Gold Coast, Tallebudgera Creek is a perfect spot to relax, stand up paddle board, fish or frolic. Kids of all ages (the 18+ variety too) will love it! The calm blue waters are intoxicating and not as cool as the beach. After your dip you can head up to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre for a frolic around the novelty and trendy chick shops.

Pacific Fair Shopping Centre has recently had a massive face lift. The once outdated outdoor area has been transformed into a world-class modern space filled with entertainment areas, fountains, lounges and an atmosphere worth seeing in person. The new cinemas have also had a face lift and great to visit when you need a break from the heat.

If you're not like me and don't fancy a dip in the ocean, maybe the Hinterland is your thing. Tambourine Mountain is surrounded by national parks with waterfalls, forest walks and a popular weekend getaway filled with art, culture, adventure and wine.

With 300 days of sunshine, the Gold Coast is great at most times of the year however they do have a subtropical climate therefore extreme temperature spikes in January and February are frequent. If you are looking for somewhere to go in the Easter School Holidays, the Gold Coast will be perfect. The weather should be pleasant and sunny with temperatures hovering around 25 Degrees Celsius, perfect for swimming however pack your jumper, the nights are cooler.

If you're not looking to take your precious annual leave days, book a flight into Gold Coast early with flights being their cheapest in February, May, June, July, August, October and November.

Fiji

Fiji ticks all the boxes of a tropical island paradise; squeaky white sand, mesmerising aquamarine water, smiling locals and swaying coconut palms. The dreamy archipelago and it's sweep of coral reefs and 332 islands is what brochures and postcards are made of. Only one third of the isles are inhabited, conjuring visions of a pure unexplored haven and your very own castaway island.

Viti Levu is Fiji's largest and most developed island, home to the capital, Suva, international transit point, Nadi, and Denerau Island, which has many beachfront resorts. Find your perfect holiday bliss in one of Fiji's most impressive hideaways. Keep up the serenity within the resort grounds, floating from day bed to day spa, or soak up a legendary Fujian sunset on an afternoon boat cruise.

If you're leisure style is a bit more active, try your hand at exploring caves, kayaking or zip-lining. Fiji is known as the 'soft coral capital of the world' so it would be remiss not to explore this marine wonderland in depth on a dive or snorkelling trip. For an authentic Fijian Experience, join a village tour to enjoy a freshly prepared meal and perhaps partake in the traditional yaqona or kava ritual. If you try this local drink, you won't forget it in a hurry. The root drink makes your lips and tongue tingle and your head feel especially light!

If you love seafood, this is definitely the destination for you! Seafood and fresh produce is definitely on the menu in Fiji. Try a meal cooked in a traditional Lovo, an earth oven used to cook meat, seafood and root vegetables such as Taro. A delicious example of Fijian cuisine is known as Kokoda, a raw fish salad marinated in coconut cream, lime and tomatoes. Flavourful Indian food is also a staple in Fiji.

When you have had enough of the daily massages and day spa, shopping in Nadi and Suva is an experience on it's own. The craft markets are full of beautiful hand crafted Fijian items, or take yourself to Mamanucas to really get a feeling for 'Island time', meaning to slow down to take in the experience and the beautiful scenery used in such television series such as Survivor and Castaway.

With consistent temperatures in their 30's all year round, your bathers, casual shorts and thongs is a suitcase staple, however head to your local GP before you travel, it might save your life from mosquito-borne illnesses.

The cheapest months to travel to Fiji are February, March, May, June, August and November.

Vanuatu

This island nation can claim every aspect of the ultimate holiday. Peaceful stretches of sand, balmy breezes, spectacular reefs and friendly locals make Vanuatu one of the happiest places on earth. Few can resist the allure of a beachfront resort and its natural spoils of which are are many.

Vanuatu is a mecca for adventurers, with a plethora of land and water-based activities including sand-boarding, off road buggy tours, scuba diving and snorkelling. Multicoloured coral gardens in peaceful bays and world-class dive sites with underwater caves and shipwrecks, such as the impressive S.S President Coolidge in Espiritu Santo, attract aquatic lovers, but there's plenty more to explore above sea level.

Take your pick from island tours through dense jungle to traditional villages, beneath cascading waterfalls and to the summit of Mount Yasur on the southern island of Tanna. This active volcano has been erupting continuously for nearly three years (but can be approached safely) and is one of Vanuatu's most popular attractions. Or, you can slow down the pace with a gentle walk or cycle through rain forests to tranquil swimming holes, and enjoy a taste of island hospitality on a visit to a local village.

Walking around local craft and food markets is an experience in itself. Few come to Vanuatu searching for big-name brands, but rather handcrafted mementos. Vila Market is best for colourful sarongs and beaded jewellery, while Vanuatu Handicraft Market on Wharf Road sells pottery and paintings. As for duty free goods, bypass the airport for the shops in Port Vila town centre.

The quickest way to get into the Vanuatu way of life is to take a daily siesta underneath swaying palm trees, by the pool or at your resort. The weather in Vanuatu is equally as pleasant all year round at a comfortable average of 28 Degrees Celcius. With Easter falling after the wet season, Vanuatu is a perfect place for your Easter Destination.
